Volunteer with Kids Ministry
CLASSROOM ROLES
Large Group Leader:
- Prayerfully prepare the weekly lesson using the assigned Gospel Project curriculum
- Engage the kids with active storytelling and appropriate visuals and object lessons that will highlight the biblical text and help them understand key gospel concepts.
- Always keep lessons gospel-focused and take opportunities to point to God’s plan of salvation through Jesus.
- Act as “emcee” during assembly time, ensuring that the large-group portion of the service flows well through the teaching segments, worship and all transitions.
- Commitment level: This role typically serves once a month for both services on the assigned week.
Small Group Leader (age 3 through 5th grade):
- Shepherd kids during small group time and build intentional relationships with each of them and their families.
- Listen and lead kids in discussions about the lesson and how to live out their faith.
- Provide a safe place for questions.
- Share your faith and your love for the Lord with the kids in your group.
- Devote the time you are here on Sunday morning completely to the kids in your group.
- Commitment level: Best to serve every week. Every other week is an option.
Small Group Assistant:
- To support Small Group Leader
- Help maintain a fun learning environment and good classroom management.
- Responsible to know and follow all the safety policies of the KIDS ministry at CHBC
- Responsible to review the weekly lesson prior to serving
- Assist small group leader with secure kid’s check-out.
- Pray for kids and small group leader prior to the Sunday you serve.
Tech Assistants (3’s through 5th grade):
- Partner with Kids Minister, large group leader and small group leaders to ensure Sunday program runs smoothly.
- Control all lights, audio, and visuals for the assembly room.
- Run ProPresenter for music lyrics, videos, and anything else for visual presentation on assembly room TV screens.
- Ensure all systems are properly shut down and all items are safely stored at the conclusion of service.
Toddlers and 2's Teachers and Assistants:
- Provide a safe/nurturing environment for kids.
- Shepherd kids and building intentional relationships with each of them and their families.
- Listen and lead kids in discussions about the lesson and how to live out their faith.
- Provide a safe place for questions.
- Share your faith and your love for the Lord with the kids in your group.
- Devote the time you are here on Sunday morning completely to the kids in your group.
- Change diapers (adult women only, in 2-year-old class) in a safe, sanitary fashion, as needed.
LOGISTICAL/HALLWAY ROLes
Supervisor
- Oversee all Sunday Kids Ministry operations, enforce policies, assist classes as needed, take headcount attendance, collect offerings, provide midyear volunteer training (if/as needed), and work to build Kids Ministry community.
Check In
- Oversee and assistant families and volunteers as they use the iPads to check-in
- Troubleshoot possible iPad malfunctions
- Must be present 20 minutes before the service begins and remain in the check-in area until 15 minutes after the service begins
- Register and collect information on new families and guests
- Updates KM staff or supervisor of issues with volunteer no-shows or children being turned away.
Greeter
- Manages the entry to the Kids Ministry check-in area.
- Warmly greets families upon arrival.
- Directs new families or visitors to the desk to register
- Confirms that families are pre-registered, can answer the health survey questions adequately, and only have one adult entering the check-in area.
Upstairs Hall Monitor
- Assist families during check-in with child pickup ticket and child drop-off by giving directions to classes, explaining the approved exits, and making sure that parents only enter the Kids Ministry wing under the correct circumstances.
- Maintain a secure environment in the Kids Ministry wing and act as an extra set of hands or eyes as the supervisor or classroom volunteers require.
Downstairs Hall Monitor
- Help direct children and families to their downstairs classrooms and assist parents with the pick-up process.
