Matt Smith Announcement

Stepping Down from Ministry Effective March 31st

Important Announcement Regarding Pastor Matt Smith

Dear Bible Church Family,

We have been blessed for the past decade to have Pastor Matt Smith serve in various roles at our church. He and Tammy first came to us in 2012, where we quickly became aware of Matt’s gifts in teaching and shepherding. He served as a Lay Elder (including two years as Elder Chair) until 2017, when he joined our staff. In each of these roles, Matt has served this body with faithfulness to the glory of God. It is with sadness, therefore, that we share with you that Pastor Matt is resigning as a pastor at CHBC, with Easter Sunday being his last day on our staff.

The Elders, Deacons, and Staff have been included as Matt’s plans have unfolded over several months, and they do not directly relate to the budget update shared recently. We are thankful for his willingness to lead our Kids Ministry since July of 2023. Moving forward, I will provide pastoral leadership over Kids Ministry and supervise Megan, who, as our Kids Ministry Associate, will see to the day-to-day operations.

Sunday Service Announcement from March 3, 2024

Statement from Matt Smith:

After many months of prayer and consultation, I've decided to step down as a pastor at CHBC at the end of March. Many factors have led to this decision, and though it has been a difficult one, I believe it is best.

I’m thankful that Megan McArthur recently joined the staff and can take on many of the responsibilities of Kids Ministry, along with Aivry Coleman, our Kids Ministry Leadership Team, and a host of dedicated volunteers like Betsy Riggan, as we continue to pray for a new Kids’ Minister. Please support them with your prayers and your service to the kids of CHBC.

Thank you for the many ways you have loved and supported my family and me. We appreciate your prayers as I’m not sure what is next, but Tammy and I are trusting the Lord and are hopeful a season of rest and renewal will be a part of His provision.

We will continue in prayer for CHBC. May you be a place that meets people where they are and helps them go where God wants them to go.

Matt will be truly missed on our staff, as he has been a dear friend, mentor, and pastor to all of us.

In Christ,

--
